A word from Mark on Medication and Mental Health Recovery…
Recovery from mental illness is a unique journey for each person, so there is not one treatment or one prescribed path to recovery. Each person has their own set of experiences, some individual and some shared with others. Through exploration and understanding your needs, your strengths, and your struggles, we tailor a treatment plan for you—and update this along the way as things change. You are an integral part of creating your own treatment plan and making decisions alongside your provider.
In mental health recovery, medications do not simply provide a cure or make us feel happy when things in our life are tough. Many people often know what they need to do to feel better but frequently cannot take action due to a malaise that weighs us down or anxiety that may, at times, feel paralyzing. We use medications as a tool to reduce the impact of your symptoms and make it easier to do things you need and want to do to feel better. If you are already in talk therapy, medications could help get you out of “crisis mode” and help talk therapy work better. By finding the right medication that treats your symptoms and not just the diagnosis, we can make it easier for you to achieve a sustainable recovery.
